About PMH Rehab
Dedicated to healing lives through compassionate, evidence-based care
Our Story
Nineteen years ago, PMH Rehab was nothing more than a three-room outpatient office on Whittier Boulevard. The founders — a clinical psychologist and a licensed counselor who had both witnessed addiction devastate families in their own Montebello neighborhood — believed that a small, locally rooted program could reach people that larger institutions overlooked. They started with evening group sessions, a part-time nurse, and a waiting list that grew faster than they could have imagined.
Within five years, demand pushed the clinic to expand into a full residential model. The team converted a nearby building into a 40-bed facility designed around the idea of an urban sanctuary — a place that felt calm and restorative without cutting patients off from the city they would eventually return to. Walking paths, open courtyards, and natural light replaced the sterile hallways typical of institutional care.
Today, PMH Rehab employs 84 clinical and support staff and has treated more than 6,100 patients across every level of care. The outpatient roots are still visible in our culture: we prioritize personal connection, keep caseloads manageable, and treat every admission as a relationship rather than a transaction. What started as a neighborhood response to a crisis has become one of the San Gabriel Valley's most trusted addiction treatment centers.
Our Mission
PMH Rehab exists because we believe every person deserves a genuine second chance — not a theoretical one, but a supported, structured opportunity to rebuild. Addiction does not erase someone's worth, and treatment should never feel like punishment. Our mission is to provide clinically rigorous care inside an environment that communicates dignity, patience, and unconditional respect for every individual who walks through our doors.
We measure success not just by sobriety milestones but by restored relationships, returned confidence, and the quiet daily victories that accumulate into a life worth protecting. Every program we design, every staff member we hire, and every space we maintain reflects one core conviction: people recover best when they are treated like people, not like problems to be solved.
Treatment Philosophy
Our clinical approach rests on three interconnected pillars that distinguish PMH Rehab from conventional programs:
- Spiritual Exploration — We create space for patients to examine meaning, purpose, and connection on their own terms. Whether through mindfulness practice, guided reflection, or faith-based support, spiritual exploration helps patients build an internal foundation that outlasts any external structure.
- Peer Accountability — Recovery thrives in community. Our structured peer groups, alumni mentorship pairings, and milestone celebrations foster honest relationships where patients hold one another to the standards they set for themselves.
- Family Systems Theory — Addiction reshapes entire families. Through multi-session family therapy, communication workshops, and boundary-setting education, we help loved ones heal alongside the patient so that the home environment supports sustained recovery.
